• American Cancer Society - Presentation by Nicki Shinners, Community Relations Manager on a variety of cancer and cancer awareness programs in Alaska and possible volunteer opportunities.

Sheila Parker

• Shelia is the Events Coordinator at Covenant House Alaska will give us an update on the golf tournament, and their other programs and goals. (This is a schedule change)

Julie Soupe

• Julie Saupe is the Executive Director with the Anchorage Convention and Visitors Association. Find out how the new convention center is progressing.

Friday, August 29

George Stranski and Peter Lekish

• George and Peter are the core organizers of the Fireweed Bicycle Races , staged between Sheep Mountain Lodge and Valdez. George also helps to organize and photograph the Ride for Life Bike Ride from Anchorage to Seward, which raises funds for cancer screening.

Friday, July 25 - Friday, August 1

• Our friends over at  Anchorage Glacier Pilots Baseball need some people to represent the Pilots and sell split-the-pot tickets at the Gold Cache Bingo. The times available are 2 sessions per night: approx. 7:30-9:30 PM and approx. 10-midnight. If anyone could volunteer to help they would greatly appreciate it, as they try and fund-raise so the team can play baseball in Wichita! Friday, August 1

• Come celebrate Lion Mary Hoekzema's 60th birthday. The event will take place by Otter lake on Fort Richardson in the evening. Start will be 6:00 - 6:30 PM. No need to bring anything with you except photo ID for all in your vehicle, in addition to vehicle registration and proof of insurance. If you need a map, go to Google and type in Otter Lake, Anchorage Alaska. On the screen that pops up type in where you are starting from. Hit return. On the next screen you may need to remind the program that Otter Lake is in Anchorage, Alaska. Once done you will receive detailed direction to the party.

Saturday, August 2

• The Spenard Lions Club will have its 19th Annual Fish Fry. Located in the Spenard Lions Club House, 2108 Roosevelt Drive, Anchorage. $6 per adult in advance, $7 at the door. Ages 2-12: $3 in advance, $4 at the door. More information: 243-0881 or 248-0832.

Sunday, August 3

• Annual Anchorage Lions Club Picnic at the home of Bob and Millie Renkert, 1225 "S" Street, starting at 1:00 PM. Sign up to bring main dish, salad, drinks, snacks or desert.

Saturday, August 9

• District 49A Cabinet Meeting, Spenard Recreation Center. 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM Social / Coffee / Set-up. Cabinet meeting 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Saturday, August 16

• Food Distribution Joint Project with Latinos Lions Club 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Hispanic Cultural Center 4233 Mt. View Drive.

Monday, August 18

• Joint Sight Meeting at the Spenard Lions Club House, 2108 Roosevelt Drive, Anchorage. Start 5:30 PM.

Monday, August 25

• Anchorage Lions Board Meeting at 5:30 PM at the Westmark Hotel.

Thursday, August 28

• Vision Screening at the Alaska State Fair provided that day by our club. Check with Bob Hoekzema or Sandra Wilson 862-0614 / / if you can help on any other day the State Fair is open (August 21 until September 1).
