Friday, September 5

Mariko Churchill

• Mariko Churchill is volunteer coordinator of volunteer resources at the Food Bank of Alaska. Mariko was born in Seattle,WA and moved to Anchorage at the age of 10, while her roots are in Seattle she considers Anchorage home.Mariko graduated from East High School and then attended Western Washington University and received a degree in American Cultural Studies.Since returning from college she has worked at Alaska Pacific University, the YWCA, and Job Corps. Mariko graduated from Leadership Anchorage in May of 2007.In April of 2007 she started working at Food Bank of Alaska, first as their Child Nutrition Coordinator, and now as the coordinator of volunteer resources. Mariko oversees all the volunteers and community food drives across the city (including Bjarne's wife, Robin).

Neal Fried

• Neal is an Economist with the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development. He will give a report on the State of the State's Economy. He will explanin how our resource industries "fit in".

Friday, September 19

Jon Dunham

• Lion Jon will give a presentation on Alaska Construction Career days (AkCCD), which is an effort to motivate and educate high school students into the professions of various construction trades. This program offers great resources for students who do not/can not go on to college, and want to be employed here at home

Friday, September 26

Larry Holman

Larry, a colon cancer survivor, will give us an overview of this year's Ride for Life, and report on the funds raised for cancer screening. Our club manned five of the aid stations during the two day ride from Anchorage to Seward.

Other Activities



Monday, September 1

• Salute to the Military at Henry's Restaurant 8001 Old Seward Highway. Free hamburgers will be given to military in uniform and children under 12. They will have games for youngsters and they want us to supersvise those games. This would be a fun opportunity for us, especially since this is aslo where our club has its pull tabs operation. Time: 3:00 until 6:00 PM.

Tuesday, September 9

• Habitat for Humanity - Anchorage, 2008 Annual Fundraising Breakfast, Hilton Anchorage - Alaska Ballroom, 7:30 AM - 8:30 AM.

Monday, September 15

• Joint Sight Meeting at the Spenard Lions Club House, 2108 Roosevelt Drive, Anchorage. Start 5:30 PM.

Thursday, September 18

• Planning meeting for the Great Pumpkin Festival, Sea Galley Restaurant, 4101 Credit Union Drive. Dinner 6:00 PM, meeting at 7:00 PM.

Saturday, September 20

• Food Distribution Joint Project with Latinos Lions Club 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Hispanic Cultural Center 4233 Mt. View Drive.

Monday, September 29

• Anchorage Lions Board Meeting at 5:30 PM at the Westmark Hotel.
