• Merri Mike is the Managing Director for the Food Bank of Alaska. We'll get an update on the State wide program, and how we can best coordinate our efforts with their needs and that of our needy community. ( Food Bank Day)

Linda "Jay" Jackson

• "Jay" is the founder and Executive Director of HHN (Helping Hand for Nepal). HHN - an all volunteer nonprofit organization - provides medical, educational, water supply and special projects in Nepal. She will include information on the BP Koirala Lions Center for Opthalmic Studies in Kathmandu and the eye camps organized by local Lions clubs in Nepal. These are all facilities she has visited.

Scott Goldsmith

• Economist Scott Goldsmith, with the University of Alaska, will give us insights into the workings of the Alaskan economy, and tell us some of the future trends we may see in Alaska.

Peter Zollers

• Peter is a Research Archaeologist and Cultural Specialist associated with UAA, who has done extensive research in the Kachemak Bay area. He will detail some of that history during his presentation.

Ginger Smith

• Ginger is the Development Director and Event Coordinator for STAR, Standing Together Against Rape. Ginger has asked to be able to address our club. Her organization has an event where our club can help.

Thursday, October 1

• Zone 3 Meeting at Anchorage Senior Center at noon to join in with the Anchorage McKinley Lion Club's lunch. It will be a chance for the four member clubs of Zone 3 to get together: the Anchorage Latino Lions Club, the Anchorage Lions Club, the Anchorage Mid-Town Lions Club, and the Anchorage Mt. McKinley Lions Club. We will have a presentation by, Nancy Stahly, member of the MIRL team, on Leadership and Membership.

Thursday, October 15

• Alaska Christian Conference and Fellowship in Serving Humanity will host a reception honoring Tay Thomas, Author, Woman of Faith and Philanthropist. 5:30 - 7:30 PM. Program of Recognition at 6:30 PM. Anchorage Senior Center, 1300 East 19th Avenue. $25 per person, a benefit for F.I.S.H. (Fellowship in Serving Humanity). Tay is the wife of Lowell Thomas Jr. This event is in part organized by the Anchorage Mt. McKinley Lions Club.

Saturday, October 17

• Food Distribution Joint Project with Latinos Lions Club 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Hispanic Cultural Center 4233 Mt. View Drive.

Monday, October 19

• Joint Sight Meeting at the Spenard Lions Club House, 2108 Roosevelt Drive, Anchorage. Start 5:30 PM.

Monday, October 26

• Anchorage Lions Board Meeting at 5:30 PM at the Westmark Hotel.

Wednesday, October 28

• Annual Miners and Trappers Board Meeting at the First Congregational Church, 2610 East Northern Lights Boulevard.

Saturday, October 31

• Great Pumpkin Festival, Spenard Rec Center. Our club will operate the golf game, as in past years. The building opens up at 1:00PM for the kids, and we need to be ready for the kids from 11:00 AM until 7:00 PM. Building closes 8:30 PM. Help us provide a safe and fun event for the kids.

Saturday, October 31

• There will be an MD MERL training for District 49A, from 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM at the Mountain View Lion Clubhouse. Zone Chairpersons, club presidents and club membership chairpersons are expected to attend, or someone can come as their representatives.
