* Zone 3 Meeting with our other clubs. Other Lions clubs: Latino, Mid-Town, Mt. McKinley and a new club, the Anchorage Sno-X Lions. ( Food Bank Day)

Lindsey Whitt

* Thanks to our Congressional Members, the Navy League and others, the USS Anchorage, a LPD (Landing Platform Dock) , will be commissioned early in 2013 at the Port of Anchorage. Some 400 officers and crew of the ship will spend about a week in Anchorage, Over 4000 people are expected to attend the commissioning. Lindsey Whitt, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the port , is in charge of all the preparations being made for the event. (thanks Lion Norm E)

Karen Matthias

* Karen works with the council of Alaska Producers. She will discuss the economic benefits of mining in Alaska, or reliance on mined materials in every day life, and the importance of operating in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. (thanks Lion Bob).

Barbara Mahoney

* Barbara is a biologist with the National Marine Fisheries Service, and she will give us an update on beluga whale counts, seals and other species. (thanks Lion Jim).

Kenn Kadow

* Lion Kenn will illustrate the revolutionary image gathering offered by his company, Immersive Video Solutions. See the video on his web site.Videos gathered by a camera with multiple lenses from the air or on the ground, give a full spherical view of project areas, be they pipelines, roadways or promotions for tourism. Based out of Anchorage, Kenn's company is working on projects in several different countries.

Friday, March 2 * Preparation for Miners and Trapper's Ball, starting at 8:00 PM. To volunteer with preparations, use the East entrance to the Egan Convention Center. Lion President Neal Haglund is leading the organizational effort. Call him at 345-0410 if you can help.
Saturday, March 3 * Miners and Trappers Ball. Theme: "Going to the Dogs". There will also be the Alaska Beard and Moustache Championships. We have very limited time to help prepare and decorate the Egan Center. Preparations continue at 9:00 AM in the morning. The actual event gets underway at 7:30 PM. Web Site. We need all hands on deck. To volunteer with preparations and during the scheduled events, use the East entrance to the Egan Convention Center. Call Lion Neal if you can help: 345-0410.

Saturday, February 17

* Food Distribution Joint Project with Latinos Lions Club 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Hispanic Cultural Center 4233 Mt. View Drive.

Monday, February 19

* Joint Sight Meeting at the Spenard Lions Club House, 2108 Roosevelt Drive, Anchorage. Start 5:30 PM.

Monday, February 26

* Anchorage Lions Board Meeting at 5:30 PM at the Westmark Hotel.
