Bob Hoekzema

• Our very own- Lion Bob Hoekzema will talk about the history of mining in Alaska and its importance to the future of the state.

Max Gruenberg

•Lion Bjarne Holm will give a presentation on the changing North Slope environment of Alaska, which has taken place over the past 30 years, and the preparations that are underway to build the Trans Alaska Gas Pipeline.(State Representative Max Gruenberg's presentation has been postponed.)

Father Norm Elliott

• State Representative Max Gruenberg will report on the Alaska Legislature , it`s accomplishments, corruption and consequences. Where do we go from here? Should be an interesting talk. (Father Norm's report on the Point Hope Whale Festival has been postponed.)

Megan E. Baeza

• The Arc of Anchorage is about to celebrate its 50th anniversary, and Megan Baeza would love to discuss with us some great special events they have coming up. Megan is also a member of the Benton Bay Athletic Lions Club.

Esther West

• Lion Esther will demonstrate the vision screening equipment used to diagnose problems with vision, the CSFII, and the upcoming convention in Anchorage.

• Canned Goods Collection for Food Bank. Bring canned goods to lunch meeting. If you forget, be prepared to make a $1.00 donation to the Food Bank of Alaska.

June 6

• The Installation Banquet will be held at the Millenuim Alaska Hotel on Spenard Road at 6:30 PM. Bring a guest. Expect a fine dinner and our rejuvenation by the installation of a new crew. Call Bjarne Holm to make reservations at 346-3910.

June 9

• Frank and Maxine will be celebrating their 70th wedding aniversary with a BBQ at noon. The Mayor Mark Begich is coming to "name" the staircase next to their home as an official park site....the Maxine and Frank Reed Family Staircase. The location is two blocks from Inlet View School, at 12th Avenue, where "P" Street should be. Parking will be available at the school, and between the school and "O" Street. Plan to arrive at 11:45 AM.

June16

• Food Distribution Joint Project with Latinos Lions Club 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Hispanic Cultural Center 4233 Mt. View Drive.

June 18

• Joint Sight Meeting ( location and time? ), in addition to the Anchorage Lions Board Meeting at 5:30 PM at the Westmark Hotel.

June 23

• "Don Fridley Golf Tournament" for the "Covenant House" at the Palmer Golf Course. Tee time 8:00 AM.

June 28

• Bob and Millie Renkert will cellebrate their 60th wedding aniversary. All Lions, spouses and friends are invited, 1225 S Street in town, from 5:30 until 8:00 PM.

Lion John Strachan to be seized and locked up at Sullivan's restaurant on Thursday July 19th to insure payment of bail. Please commit to contribute bail of $100, $50, $20 or any amount you can spare. He needs to be released. Contribute $500 and he promises never again to act as his own lawyer. (Contributions benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Alaska)
